last october, our son, indy, was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. many of his joints were swollen from the disease and it greatly impacted his mobility. he couldn't walk long distances or periods of time without experiencing pain and discomfort. for the past 9 months, indy has been participating in a medical research program at seattle children's hospital, and his condition has improved remarkably. when he enrolled in the program, he had a total of 47 joints affected by the disease. at his last checkup in june, he had just 2 joints that were active with arthritis.
on tuesday, indy and i hiked up to the high divide - a 3-hour, 4-mile, 1,500-foot climb to the top of the ridge line. it was our first father-son overnight hike. indy had the time of his life and did not show any signs of pain or discomfort...he was a real trooper, and i was so proud of him!
our son is a blessing and a gift. our wish for him is to experience a rich, abundant, and extra-ordinary life, free from the clutches of arthritis. |

4th of july

|
| there were so many fireworks going off up and down the beach, it was hard to decide which direction to shoot. luckily, the show lasted well over an hour. one of the great things about living near the beach is you don't have to fight crowds and traffic. but the best thing is getting to sit around the fire and make s'mores after the show is over! |

| the kids had a wonderful time at the beach (as always). it's been almost a year since we moved back home to washington. thinking back on this past year and seeing how much indy and kayt have experienced, the decision to move back was absolutely, without a doubt, the best decision we've ever made. |

vancouver skyline

| the city of vancouver is ready for the olympics. now all it needs is some snow. the panoramic photograph below was stitched together using three separate images. this shot was taken with the aid of four different photographic filters. the exposure was 30 seconds long, giving the harbor an almost mirror-like effect. the only post processing completed was the use of the image-stitching software. what you see is pretty much what the camera captured. |

| not sure why the olympic rings where lit green. i think red would have been more fitting seeing how the canadian flag is a red maple leaf. they are floating on a barge in the middle of the harbor - not in a great location for photos though as i was almost setup in the water for this second shot. this photo was taken roughly one hour after the image above - that is the reason the color of the sky is darker. |
